We will Head to Cab Calloway Park about noon on the 16. From 1946 to 1992, anyone who was anyone knew about the Sphinx Club at 2107 Pennsylvania Avenue. If you were a headliner like Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington or Etta James performing at the Royal Theater, you went to the Sphinx Club after your performance. If you were a civil rights leader like A. Philip Randolph or Furman Templeton, you would use the Sphinx Club as your second office.
At night, great acts would perform and provide sweet music to enjoy. During the day, Mr. Tilghman provided space to countless of voter registration drives and civil rights campaigns for a better Baltimore.
Learn about this remarkable man and the Sphinx as well as the sweet sound of jazz that could be heard at this remarkable spot in Baltimore's history.
